Accessing the "God Spot" in Your Brain

In 2008, researchers at the University of Missouri were studying people with injuries to a specific spot in the brain – the Right Parietal Lobe. Their findings showed that these people became more spiritual and empathic after their injury. This led the media to start calling this area of the brain, “The God Spot.” Interestingly, Dr. Jeff Tarrant found that the exact same area of the brain also seemed to go “off-line” when mediums were connected to Spirit. More often than not, when he was testing a medium or channel, this part of the brain would start showing unusual activity that would sometimes look like seizures or dramatic increases in slow brain waves (theta or delta). Clearly, there is something important about this area.

The main job of the Right Parietal Lobe (RPL) is to distinguish between self and other. So, when the RPL is doing its “normal” job, it feels cIear that you are an individual and separate from the people around you. However, when this part of the brain misbehaves in some way, through injury, stimulation, or meditation, our perceptions change. When the RPL is no longer doing its job, the boundaries become a bit blurry, making it easier to take the perspective of someone else or connect to something outside of our physical bodies. For mediums, shutting down the RPL may allows them to extend their perceptions and connect with “the Other Side.”

What we are now learning is that you can teach this part of the brain to change its functioning, allowing more access to the Spirit World. Some of this training involves specific meditation practices that involve experiencing the energetic connectivity between ourselves and all other beings, alive and dead, as well as our guides, Angels, and helpers. Practicing “seeing” the world through someone else’s eyes and becoming sensitive to opening and closing our energetic boundaries are additional strategies that can help all of us expand our medium abilities.
